The Ministry of Health, in partnership with the Center for Health, Human Rights and Development (CEHURD), has announced the second Uganda National Conference on Health, Human Rights and Development (UCHD 2025), set for September 3–5, 2025 at Mestil Hotel, Kampala.
The biennial gathering will bring together over 350 delegates from government, civil society, academia, youth groups, the private sector, and international partners to address one of Uganda’s most urgent challenges — ensuring equitable health for all.

“Health is not created by the health sector alone,” said Dr. Olaro Charles, Director General Health Services. “Education, housing, water, transport, environment, and finance — these sectors all shape whether Ugandans can live healthy, productive lives. We must work together to achieve Universal Health Coverage and Vision 2040.”
Bridging Gaps Across Sectors
This year’s theme, “The Right to Health: Bridging Gaps Across Other Sectors to Achieve Equitable Health for All”, highlights the role of social determinants such as clean water, quality education, adequate nutrition, a safe environment, and non-discrimination.
The conference will review progress, showcase innovations, and identify priority interventions to tackle health inequalities, while influencing policy, legal frameworks, and resource mobilization.

A Call for Collaboration
Ms. Fatia Kiyange, CEHURD’s Executive Director, urged stronger inter-ministerial cooperation:
“If the Ministry of Education keeps children in school, and the Ministry of Water ensures clean water, the health sector can focus on care — not crisis.”
Food systems will also be in focus. Ms. Agnes Kirabo, Executive Director of the Food Rights Alliance, stressed:
“What you eat shapes who you are. Poor food handling endangers health. True health is built on the life we live every day — not just hospital visits.”
From a governance perspective, Mr. Onesmus Kansiime of the Office of the Prime Minister emphasized the need for data-driven decision-making:
“Data must engineer solutions. The Ministry’s Health Management Information System is one of our strongest tools.”
UCHD 2025 will convene policymakers, practitioners, community leaders, rights advocates, researchers, legislators, media, and global partners. Outcomes are expected to drive reforms, boost multi-sectoral action, and mobilize resources, ensuring no Ugandan is left behind in the journey toward equitable health.
