Rotary International Drives Malaria Vaccine Uptake in Busoga

Rotary International, through its Rotarians Against Malaria–Global Rotary Action Group (RAM-Global), has stepped up efforts to rally communities in the Busoga sub-region to embrace the newly introduced malaria vaccine alongside other preventive interventions.

According to Daniel Perlman, Chair of RAM-Global, the organization is rolling out a continent-wide grassroots mobilization campaign aimed at reducing the malaria burden in Africa. The initiative focuses on community education, awareness drives, and direct engagement with families to encourage acceptance of the vaccine as a critical tool in malaria prevention.

“Rotary International is moving across Africa to ensure that communities not only understand the benefits of the malaria vaccine but also adopt complementary preventive measures such as mosquito net use, indoor spraying, and early testing,” Perlman emphasized.

Tackling Malaria at the Grassroots Level

The malaria vaccine is being hailed as a groundbreaking addition to Uganda’s fight against malaria, a disease that continues to be one of the leading causes of illness and death, especially among children under five. By engaging local leaders, health workers, and community-based organizations, Rotary is ensuring that trusted voices deliver accurate information and dispel misconceptions about vaccination.

A Continent-Wide Commitment

The RAM-Global campaign is not limited to Busoga but part of a wider movement across Africa. The program seeks to align with national malaria control strategies while reinforcing Rotary International’s global mission to support health equity, disease prevention, and community resilience.

Through advocacy, education, and resource mobilization, Rotary aims to help Africa reach a future where malaria is no longer a leading public health threat.
