Rotary Bulindo Offers Free Healthcare to 1,000 in Kira

More than 1,000 residents in Kira Municipality are set to benefit from a two-day free medical camp organized by the Rotary Club of Bulindo at St. Francis, Bulindo. The health outreach aims to make essential healthcare services accessible to underserved communities at no cost.

According to Paul Passy Lubega, President of the Rotary Club of Bulindo, the initiative is expected to serve at least 500 people daily, with the overall goal of reaching 1,000 beneficiaries by the close of the camp. “It is our obligation as Rotary to bring healthcare closer to the people and ensure access to vital services free of charge,” Lubega said.

Wide Range of Free Medical Services

The camp offers a comprehensive package of health services, including:

  • Immunisations
  • Cancer screening
  • Dental check-ups
  • Maternal and child healthcare
  • Mental health counselling
  • Health talks and education sessions
  • Blood donation drive to address Uganda’s chronic shortage, particularly for mothers during childbirth

Volunteer medical teams, together with Rotary’s partners and sponsors, are delivering these services, ensuring the outreach remains completely free for community members.

Rotary’s Broader Community Impact

Beyond this health camp, the Rotary Club of Bulindo has spearheaded several community development projects. These include:

  • Installing water facilities at Nambogo Primary School, benefitting hundreds of pupils
  • Planting thousands of trees to promote environmental sustainability
  • Establishing a neonatal unit in Kasangati to support maternal and infant health

Lubega revealed that the medical camp will now be an annual event, with plans to expand outreach to more residents in the coming years.

Community Voices: Beneficiaries Speak Out

Residents welcomed the initiative, noting its life-changing impact.

Noaline Gwokyalya, a school cook and mother of seven, brought all her children to access the free services. “Healthcare is expensive, and I couldn’t afford everything. Now, my children have received deworming tablets and we’re waiting for mosquito nets—things I had overlooked or couldn’t afford,” she said.

Another beneficiary, William Mugerwa from Kimwanyi, said he learned about the camp through WhatsApp church and family groups. “Good health is for everyone, young and old. I came for dental, optical, and hypertension screening because prevention is better than cure,” he explained, urging other residents to embrace similar opportunities.

A Step Towards Better Healthcare Access

With Uganda still facing gaps in healthcare access, high maternal mortality, and blood shortages, the Rotary Club of Bulindo’s medical camp is a timely intervention that highlights the role of community-driven health initiatives.
