Mulago Neurosurgeon awarded for performance

Mulago National Referral Hospital’s leading neurosurgeon, Dr. Michael Edgar Muhumuza, was recognized by the Rotary Club of Bukoto in February with the prestigious Vocational Award for 2019/2020. The award celebrates professionals who excel in their field and contribute significantly to society.

Dr. Muhumuza, a Senior Consultant in Neurology and Neurosurgery, leads the Neurosurgery Department at Mulago Hospital, where he has performed numerous complex brain surgeries and mentored upcoming neurosurgeons.

He earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from Guangxi Medical University in China and further specialized with a Master of Medicine in Neurosurgery from Tianjin Medical University. He is also a member of the College of East, Central, and South African Surgeons, reflecting his high professional standing in the region.

The Rotary Vocational Award is an annual recognition granted to individuals who demonstrate excellence, ethical practice, and a lasting impact in their profession, inspiring societal transformation through their work. Dr. Muhumuza’s award highlights his dedication to advancing neurosurgery in Uganda and improving healthcare outcomes for patients with neurological disorders.
