Buffalo Safari Lodge is located at Queen Elizabeth Park, Katunguru Bridge, near the magical Kazinga channel, 1km off Kasese-Mbarara road, Western Uganda.
The resort lies in 25 private acres of wilderness, a serene environment full of spectacular flora and fauna – elephant, buffalo, hippo, warthog and many bird species, all at the glance of an eye. We have well experienced staff, eye-catching facilities, with a lounge that gives a spectacular view of the world-renowned Queen Elizabeth Park below, the Kazinga Channel River, and our privately-owned Lake Rubirizi. It takes about 12 minutes to reach the Katunguru park gate for Park activities, and 5minutes drive to reach the Kazinga Channel for Boat cruises.
Guest Rooms And Lodge Capacity
The lodge has 23 cottages, which is ideal for large groups of 46 guests or more. We have 12 Standard cottages, and 11x Deluxe cottages;
Standard Cottages have a large living area (651 sq. ft) are furnished with Danish stumped floor, wall matt, instant water heater shower and low flush toilet.
Deluxe cottages are large rooms (770 sq. ft), furnished with Danish stumped floor, wall matt, instant water heater shower, suspended electric bronze heater shower system, a bath tub, low flush toilet, and Bidet complete with a Shataf. It also comes with a large private balcony overlooking the Park.
The design of the rooms and living area suits the environment, interests and demands of guests generally, with 15ft-high ceilings in the cottages, which allows freshness, privacy and a freedom in the spaces.
This is a family friendly lodge. Among the rooms at this property, there are five family cottages each with an overall living space of 3500.sq ft, consisting of 2 interconnecting rooms in each cottage, with a private entrayway/lobby in between that can be opened up for families living together. Each room is incredibly independent, with its own private entrance, a balcony, private corridor and a large, 150 sq. ft bathroom. Each of the rooms has two king-size 6ft X 7ft beds.
The lodge has a private animal waterhole (pond) called Rubirizi, where a large number of animals from the park come to lounge nonchalantly – including buffalo, antelope, kob, elephant, warthog, and even the very rare giant forest hog – all of which guests enjoy and get to see while at the restaurant terrace. From the pook deck, you can get to see the green environment and these animals at close proximity.
Other Guest Facilities And Activities
The Lodge now has upgraded facilities – the following facilities have been upgraded – guest parking, all public areas, the dining area, entrance to the lodge, and all of the cottages have been upgraded to 5-star level. We also have an infinity pool (the first of its kind in QE Park) overlooking the park and animal waterhole nearby, with a separate junior pool that allows for safety and privacy.
Buffalo Lodge is located in close proximity to the various tourist/visitor activities including: Game drives in the park, 12 minutes’ drive to Katunguru Park gate, Boat Cruise on the famous Kazinga Channel, Bird watching: The Lodge is a birders’ paradise, Guided community visits and walks, Chimpanzee trekking in Kyambura, Kalinzu or Maramagambo Forests, Katwe Salt Lake, Hiking on mountain Rwenzoris. 40 minute drive to the Rwenzori Mountain Park.
